[Yaesu] FT-817 battery questions

 Hello Ron and Ernie,
Thank you both for answering me about this issue!
I now understand that this rig takes only 'inserted' battery packs. The original one was missing when I got the radio and who had it, scabbed a non-stock pack into it and that made things weird to figure out. Now to bring it back to stock!

The rig came with some sort of "Added" battery holder for over sized batteries and no compartment cover. I didn't realize at the time, that this was not stock and after getting the replacement cover, started to see what was wrong/goofed up.
The service manual blow up doesn't show the inside of the battery compartment, so I have no definite idea what is missing. 
Can someone who has one of these rigs please contact me off list so we can discuss this? I can send pics of what I have, (don't have), and would like to see what is really missing.
