The short answer for Ray is "yes" -- both digital and analog are getting
passed on the cable 'tween the radio and the display head. The microphone
audio is passed to the main unit along with some [TTL not RS-232] serial
TX/RX lines between the display processor and the main unit.
N0KQY needs to know that for receive audio, he will need an additional
cable for the external speaker jack on the back of the main unit as well.
You might do well with some sort of Class 1 (100-meter range) Bluetooth
adapters that can carry both the audio and serial protocols, IFF there's
an RF path between the head and main unit.
A real 'hack' would probably involve a couple of Raspberry PI boards
(with USB Wifi adapters for wireless solution) and a little bit of
programming. :-)
