hi rob,
back all the knobs against the front panel? i must disagree. i
understand your logic of spreading the weight and impact distribution
however knobs directly touching the packing is the opposite of the way
the manufacturers ship and will guarantee a "DENIED CLAIM" in the event
of damage. if you dont have the original factory box and styro inserts
you are also risking a "DENIED CLAIM" status. if you dont have the
original packing, i build a styro or cardboard template that rests
against the front panel or rack handles, preventing the knobs and
meters from coming in contact with the packing in the event of "drop".
you never want the knobs supporting the rig in the event of
mishandling. my 781 was paid out because fed ex had no way to deny the
claim. all original factory packing and triple walled cardboard between
the factory box and the outer box along with the "shipping box stamp
certification" on the outer box. the inspector came to my home and took
pictures of everything, looking for any way to deny the claim.

ps...  dont give them a reason to deny your claim
