[Yaesu] Yaesu FT-1000D Problem

Need some help here. My FT-1000D MAIN VFO A knob just decided to stop
tuning. Any suggestions on what could have caused this and what the solution
to correct the problem would be highly appreciated.
Unit had been bought brand new in the 90's and has only been opened once for
cleaning. Would say its still in like new condition both in appearance and
performance. SUB VFO-B performing perfectly.
Any help and or suggestions would be most appreciated with thanks in
advance.
