[Yaesu] VX2-R

I have repaired several different handheld radios that had a broken solder
joints on the antenna connector. This is more common on BNC connectors than
SMA, but it does happen to both.

Another good possibility is the antenna is damaged (broken inside). Try an
antenna from one of the other radios for a quick check.

You also might verify the center pin of the connector on the radio isn't
damaged.

Sounds wrong. I have had two VX2-R almost since they first came out and both
perform as well as other HTs I have, and have had in the past given their
short antennas. We use both regularly - my wife is also licensed - and the
only problem we have is that sometimes mine will not turn on until I remove
and replace the battery; that is not an uncommon problem and is the only one
I am aware of.

I would like to stick around and see if I might be of assistance, but early
tomorrow I am leaving for about 4 weeks.

Oh yes, mine also seems quite sensitive on the aviation AM band, comparing
it with other receivers I have, again allowing for the short antenna.

Hello all......
Question.......
I have just acquired a Yaesu VX2-R.
I am familiarizing myself with all the functions of this unit.
I have a VX5-R, VX7-R also.
I have 5 very local repeaters to my qth.
Interestingly, the 5 and the 7 pick up the repeaters DFQ, "solid", full
scale !!!!!
The VX2-R is almost "deaf" to these very strong repeaters.
The s-meter does not even go 1/2 s-meter scale as it does on the other two.
Is there a function that attenuates the signal?
Has anyone else seen this? Is it due to the antenna supplied? Is there a
serial number series that was prone to this problem?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Tnx!
Pete
