John,
I wouldn't worry about it one little bit!
Ford Ranger 1985
I've run HF with an FT-101B with a Hustler whip on the side of the bed,
full SSB out on 20 meters.
I've also run 40+ watts with a co-linear 2 mtr whip.
The computers haven't been an issue in well over 20 years! Think of all
the Taxi Cabs!
Not to mention Police cars! Which I might add that I drive a '97 Crown
Vic Police Interceptor.
Don't sweat it! Hook up what you want. The normal caveats apply -
direct to battery - "maybe" an alternator choke - perhaps a computer
grade cap - those would be IF you get alternator noise!
