[Yaesu] FT-1000 and FT-1000D

It's not a dumb question, Mike (and besides, there are no dumb questions
here).
You can't tell by looking at the front - they both just say "FT-1000".
You can't even tell by looking at the serial number sticker on back - it
still only says "FT-1000" even if it's a D model.
If you look a the back and see that it has the BPF-1 (subreceiver
bandpass module), chances are it's a D model. But it could also be a
non-D model to which someone has added the module.
As far as I know (somebody please correct me if wrong), the only way to
tell for sure is to open it up and see what options are installed (e.g.
TCXO, 3rd-IF filters, BPF-1). Even then, if all the D options are
installed, you have, in effect, an FT-1000D - but you won't be able to
tell if it came from Yaesu that way or if someone upgraded it.
I believe the only option that was *not* installed in a factory-original
D model is the sub-receiver narrow CW filter (XF-455MC).
