 I think that the 520 was similar to the FT50 and the VX5 series. What's
going on is that the radio saves an electronic "snapshop" of what exactly
is going on with the radio when the power is interrupted. If that's the case,
then all you need to do is to plug it in to external power, turn it on, then
turn it off, then unplug it. Then it should be able to turn itself back on okay.
 Let us know if that works or not.
