[Yaesu] UPS

I've had my own experiences with UPS and Fed Up, errr, Fedex this
summer.
A few months back I sold some motorcycle parts and looked on the UPS
web site for a shipping quote and charged the purchaser that ammount.
When I completed the shipping online, the charged amount was more than
the quote! Of course, I assumed that I had erred. A couple of weeks
later I did the same thing and had the same result. A bit of
examination revealed that UPS was applying a fuel surcharge when the
item was entered into the system to the tune of about 30% more than the
quote.
Then I ordered a bunch of ATV parts and to my chagrin, they used FedEx
(I was burned by them years back ordering hard drives). Fortunately, I
had used the work address for delivery so they could be sure to get a
signature since my last dealings with them always required tham and
it's tough for a bachelor to give a signature when at work. Anyway, I
got an email that delivery was set for a Thursday. Well, Thursday came
and went and no package, as did Friday. So late Friday I called them
and asked what was going on as each day the package was shown on the
truck for delivery from Topeka. The agent tried to find out and came
up empty. Well, the box showed on Saturday, no explanation, no
apology.
A month ago I sold a rear rack for a motorcycle on eBay. It didn't
weigh that much and it wasn't all that long so I charged 15ドル for flat
rate shipping. Well, the actual charge came to something like 12ドル.36
so that left a bit for time and aggravation. Guess what, about 10 days
later I get a friendly invoice from UPS charging my credit card another
6ドル.90 since they claimed that my package measured over 84 inches girth
plus width. Of course I can't contest that since I don't have the
package. So, I lost a bit more money on that deal...
Then there are the horror stories I hear about Dewy, Huey, and Louie
(DHL) so I'm not sure if that route is good either.
I've had great service from USPS for small packages, but after a couple
of pounds their advantage disappears.
I guess they're just gonna keep sticking it to us. I do have to say
that I've yet to personally receive a package with damage to the
contents. I have received some at work that were damaged from
shipping. No doubt, it's impossible to pack things too well.
