FT101 history (post FT-101F):
101ZD - digital display (not a counter, needed calibration when switching modes, no WARC bands. NO AM - SSB & CW ONLY. Similar knobs and appearance to the FT901DM series (poor man's version). Also available in a FT-101Z version (no display, analog dial only, also a few items removed, possibly the DC-DC converter).
101ZD MKII - Added AM mode/position to mode switch. The display became a true freq counter to show the offsets between modes, calibration no longer needed (similar to the change from FT901DM to FT902DM)
101ZD MKIII - Replaced AM mode with AM/FM position on mode switch. EITHER AM OR FM option board could be user installed; NOT BOTH AT SAME TIME. Newer knobs with silver accent rings to the rear. Also supported newer FV-101DM digital memory VFO with direct frequency entry and memories. Earlier models only supported the FV-101Z analog VFO.
The digital VFO is almost a collector's item today.
