Hi Bill....
It's been many years since I've had the 757 (GX & GXII) radios, but I
believe there are pushbutton switches at the rear of the radio to turn the
back up battery on/off, and also other functions. If I remember correctly,
there are 2 of these buttons and I think if you push BOTH buttons in, the
internal battery is disabled. Perhaps you have already checked that but I'm
assuming you haven't. You might also try to obtain a Users' Manual for the
radio.
