Ron,
I would highly suggest you use the DATA connections on the back and place
the rear switch in AFSK position. It will give you constant audio output to
the sound card and when you select DATA-USB it will mute the microphone
input and re-direct the audio to the rear connections. However, the Mic Gain
control still functions as a audio gain for audio drive from the sound card.
You will experience less of a chance of overdriving the radio with this
setup. Also you can leave the mic connected.
