[Yaesu] Opinions on ft-847

I'm thinking of buying the ft-847 rig. I will be using it for HF as a net controller. My main concern is the notch filtering. Does it have a external filter control? I need one that can zero in on beat/tone noise. 
I read on e.ham reviews that the 920 rig is a poor mans version of the MK5. I was wondering if the 847 is too? 
I'm using a 706MK2G. The TX is OK, but the RX is crap when it comes to dsp filtering and notch control capabilities.
As you can tell I'm looking for a base rig with all the bands and also the biggest bang for the buck. Your opinion is greatly appreciated.
