Yes, it's the same V/U power amp part for the D & non-D model.
One alternative is to remove the device, jumper the driver stage to
the output filter section & use (an) external amplifier(s). This is
inconvenient at least, but still makes use of the V/U portions of the
rig. Of course, under computer control the 100/100D would make a fine
scanning receiver for the base station/shack; perhaps useful for
contesting in that role.
