[Yaesu] VX-150 Battery Pack - cell replacement ?

The stock battery pack (FNB-64 -- 7.2V, 700mah) for the VX-150 appears
to contain 6 AA Nicad cells.
The pack appears to be held together by the 2 screws ('Y' shaped slot)
that make up the charger contacts.
Screw driver bit for this 'security' screw are available (I already have
the larger size ones).
Can the battery pack be disassembled by us mere mortals by merely
removing the two battery contacts screws ?
If so, can the cells be replaced with 6 x AA NMHI type (which would
yield 7.2V 2300 mah ) ?
