Mike.....
I use a Telex Pro 250 headset/mic combination. Unfortunately, I don't
believe Telex produces them anymore. But, you might be lucky enough to find
a used set somewhere. Actually, I think just about any mic/headset combo
would work. The Telex mic has 3 connections; one for mic input, one for
voltage to the mic, and a common ground. I made up an adapter cable, using
CAT 5 cable to interface between the radio and headset. One end has the
modular plug, and the other terminates in a 3.5mm stereo plug. I needed the
stereo plug to obtain the mic voltage, which I get from the radio mic
jack. The earphone part is just a straight forward 3.5mm plug. I've
sacrificed the up/dwn button function since I seldom use them anyway. For
PTT, I use a small foot switch, plugged into the DATA jack, or I use VOX.
The foot switch uses a 6 pin mini DIN plug and cable, which I obtained from
a dead computer mouse (P/S 2 type).
Also, with another mic adapter cable, I can use the same headset with my
Knwd. TS-950SDX.
Hope this helps and maybe gives you some ideas.
