[Yaesu] FT-890 PROBLEM

 just received the 890 from an ebay purchase. I've had one previously so =
I'm a little familiar with it. Didn't come with a manual!
If I put it on AM and key the mike, most of the time I get little or no =
output and I get a buzz from the speaker. Happens on antenna and dummy =
load as well. Happens on all frequencies.
The only band where I have seen it put out 100 watts was 160 once into =
the load.
When I've tried it on SSB into the dummy load whistling in the mike the =
needle on the meter on the 890 sometimes goes up but will go down alot =
and come back up like something is switching on and off.
Can anyone give me some ideas?
