??? personal attacks? uncivil? *sigh*

Quite true and thank you.

Why is it always the person who drives dangerously who has the
bumper sticker that says "Mean people suck"?
My point on this topic is exactly what I ended my first email in
this thread with: People will always chose a generation of rigs
as 'theirs' and will resist any other change as they can see no
value to it. Some will go so far as to decry all devices that
came about later--possibly through some unquantifiable or subjective
criteria.
Regardless, progress will continue to be made with or without
these people. I hope we can bring as many along as possible
as that will serve to strengthen the Amateur Service--you
know, to provide a pool of trained operators and to advance
the state of the are. I.e. the reason we have these priveleges?
We have a responsibility and duty to the Amateur Service to
balance the priveleges which it has granted us. Ones dues
to the service do no end with passing the test--be it code
or written.
We can never say 'good enough' and stop at some point. We
surely cannot tell others *not* to advance the state of the
art of radio communications.
I'd like to see Yaesu be a leader in this advancement--but
others have pointed out how unlikely that is. In the US,
the market leader is the least likely to be the one to innovate
because they have the most invested in 'how things are'.
Someone should explain to them the term 'sunk costs'. I have
hope that the spirit of innovation that was once a halmark of
the Japanese industrial complex is still alive and that Yaesu
will see fit to go forward.
Since this is a user group for Yaesu equipment, here seems to
be a good place to motivate long time customers to encourage
Yaesu to lead the way. Tell your equipment dealers and ask
your reps at hamfests and conferences. Let our favorite
vendor know how you feel.
These advances will be made. They are *already being made.
The purpose here is to get people to motivate Yaesu to be
a part of it. There will be a new box in my shack in the
coming years. I'd like to make sure it says Yaesu on it--
without me having to put a sticker on it. :)
Oh, and I don't sell radios or have any other comercial interest
in this aside from owning 6 shares of Motorola stock and being
a ham. I do this because I see it as my responsibility to
the service.
Cheers,
