[Yaesu] Proper way of tuning up a analog rig

It's safest to follow the manual exactly. Once you
get the hang of it, it will take only a few seconds
because you'll remember the approximate settings for
each band. Some old timers are able to "tune up"
while they are talking and can tune for "max smoke"
just by reading the power out needle reading on the
meter while transmitting. Perhaps you will be able to
do that in the future, but don't try it now.
The other thing to remember is that these radios are
not meant to do full power with 100% duty cycle for
long periods of time. That means that while you are
slowly learning how to tune up, do it in short spurts.
Don't key down for more than about 5-10 seconds at a
time, and give the tubes a rest between keydowns.
Finally, be nice and do your practice tune ups into a
dummy load and not an antenna, especially not a
non-resonant antenna.
