> Here is my situation. I live above a subway line here in the city of
Toronto. And there is no way for them to fix the problem of line noise, they
just laugh. So my problem is I'm looking for a yaesu rig that can combat
this line noise. Is there any model numbers I should be looking for that
have a good filter notch system? This fried egg sound gives me a headache if
I listen to it for more than 5min. You can't buy a clearspeach unit in
canada without buying it in the US and with out paying for the duty/taxes
and money exchange. Thats a killer. Any thoughts on this is greatly
apprecited. Please reply off line to:
Hart, you don't want a Clear Speech, that just enhances what's left at the
end of the line, after all RF, IF and AF stages and out at the speaker.
They're fine if you are stuck with a certain radio and want to improve it,
but see my last suggestion...
Third best is a unit with internal AF DSP, like the amazing FT-100. Best
Noise Blanker I have ever heard.
Second best is a unit with IF DSP.
First best solution would be something that subtracts the noise at the
antenna! I have such a unit: It's called an Active Noise Canceller, ANC-4
( I think by JPS, formerly Timewave ). The concept is great: place a noise
pickup antenna near the noise source, like a power pole, electric fence,
neon sign, spark plugs, or, in your case, a subway! Then adjust the unit in
frequency or phase to "minus" the noise.
I saw one on ebay,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4671&item=1950607426
or item no. 1950607426 currently at 59ドル. I paid a little over 100ドル for mine.
Of course, I am not the seller.
MFJ also makes one or two.
Remember, eliminate the noise at the source, don't mask it after it's in
your receiver.
Thanks
