[Yaesu] Aftermarket HT Batteries?

Hi, Stay VERY far away from W&W as possible...; The chemistry in the cells
they use simply wont hold up more than a year or two(if that long). They also
tend to have VERY poor mechanical fit and design; One that I had for an FT470
would never stand (upright) solidly until after I took a file to the bottom of
the case. Another that a friend had for his FT50 recently, directly casused
one of the battery contact pins to be sheared off.
One thing Ive learned in having many HTs(mostly Icom and Yaesu) over the past
20yrs is that w/ regards to battery packs, if at all possible, stay OEM. I
will add though that we did have good luck w/ a couple of Periphex packs, but
Im not sure of theyre still around. Also, Alexander seems to make a good line
of batteries for Comerical HTs, but I think they only sell through dealers.
I will also mention that weve had very good luck w/ our only Maha pack, that
we got for our FT50; Its over 6 yrs old now and only slightly starting to show
some age. Although we only slow charge it w/ the OEM AC pack and a Vertex
"shoe".
