Subject: Re: [Yaesu] Serial Number Information - FT-847 and FT-100D
| The Yaesu serial numbers can be decoded as follows:
|| The first character (a number) indicates the year of manufacture.
|| The second character (a letter) indicates the month of manufacture.
| Subtract two (2) from the letter's position in the alphabet to determine
| the month.
|| The next two characters (numbers) seem to indicate lot number in some
| cases, or are part of the manufacturing sequence number (see next) in
| others.
|| The last four characters (numbers) are the manufacturing sequence number
| of that radio.
|| So, for example, a serial number of 2H015678 would indicate that the
| radio was built in 2002 (the 2), in the month of June (H is the eighth
| letter of the alphabet, 8 minus 2 = 6, the sixth month is June), was
| part of lot number 01, and was unit number 5,678 built in that lot.
|| Obviously, the year digit could mean 1982 or 1992 in addition to 2002.
| Apparently the assumption is made that anyone interested in decoding a
| serial number is capable of determining which ten year period the radio
| was built during.
