A minor and intermittent problem with my relatively new FT-847
Very occasionally, when I go to transmit on 70cm for the first time since
switching the radio on, nothing appears to transmit despite the following
symptoms:
1) The PO meter goes full scale despite the fact that the
power knob is almost all the way down (low).
2) The current meter on my power supply indicates that
20+amps is being drawn by the radio while the mic PTT
is depressed. Same for the MOX switch.
Switching to CW and using a straight-key has the same indication.
3) Nothing is actually transmitted - verified with another base rig
, an HT, AND a wide-coverage receiver.
To 'fix' the problem:
Switch to SAT mode and transmit on 70cm from the sub-band. Even just
tapping the ptt key once.
The problem may not re-occur for a week.
My rig is typically switched on (for about 4 - 10 hrs) and off just once a
day.
Any thoughts ??
Thanks and 73
Frank
