[Yaesu] viewers

>From the DjVu web site:

"Is it lossy encoding?
Yes. DjVu is not lossless encoding. However, DjVu documents appear lossless
when viewing. While the encoder for bitonal areas can encode losslessly, the
background layer is a lossy compression resulting in overall lossy encoding.
The resulting image quality is still better than or equal to competing
formats, in a much smaller file size."
Why would a HAM with just a few documents scanned want to use anything but
TIFF or BMP or GIF or LWF formats? Certainly we have sufficient space on
our computers to store the files. All of the above files can be further
compressed by using WinZip (should you have a "real" space concern).
Furthermore, you cannot edit DjVu files without spending at least 199ドル.00
for an editor. Most of us have available editors for the older formats
listed above. One more thing, printing from Windows Internet Explorer does
not work very well with large documents. Much of the document will be cut
off in the limited printing areas. (Use Irfan View or ACDSee).
One of the things we do need is a good way of masking off the multi-page
single-sheet documents found on the RU site so we can print them easier,
i.e. without multi file editing of the images. Now if the original scanners
had used the multi-page TIFF file format, then you could just print the
pages you need. The BMP format provided can be converted into multi-page
TIFF with many of the graphics/scanner programs most Ham's have. Sometimes,
simpler is really better....
By the way, the word "can" in the first paragraph does not mean "will".
