Hello Frank,
I had a FT-990 for about nine years. No problems at all (none with specific
versions), only a lot of pleasure with this rig! It has a great receiver.
The standard Yaesu-filters are 2400 and 500 Hz. Optional are 2000 and 250 Hz
Yaesu filters.
But I really can recommend the Inrad filters! E.g. they have excellent shape
factor and you have a very extended selection of filters.
When you like the optimum of speech fidelity, you may choose the 2800 Hz
(instead of the standard 2400 Hz filter) and 2100 Hz SSB-filter in the
optional slot.
The 1000 and 400 Hz CW-filters are outstanding when you join contests.
Choose the 1000 filter instead of the 500 Hz standard Yaesu filter.
When you want the optimum of selectivity you may choose the 1800 Hz
SSB-filter and the 250 or even the 125 Hz CW-filter.

Subject: [Yaesu] FT-990 Questions
It's getting close to rig buying time.... While I can't exactly swing the
price of a new Mark V Field, I am opting to go the used route and am
strongly considering purchasing an FT-990.
My questions are:
(1) Was there any serial number run that may be problematic (like with the
TS-940, for example)
(2) What stock filters (if any) did the rig come with?
(3) Any after-market filter suggestions? (like the InRad line). More
specifically, recommended filters for contesting and Dx'ing.
The eham.net reviews of the 990 are impressive, but if there is something
else I should know regarding this rig, please let me know.
Thanks
Frank, NG1J
