[Yaesu] Contest impressions of FT100D, and filter question

Just finished a full all out effort in the ARRL 10
meter contest with my FT100D, and I can report that
this is definitely a decent rig for single station
contesting. Not sure how it would hold up in a multi
multi environment, but it did just fine by itself in
my station. I have previously used it in the
sweepstakes, CQWW, and IARU contest, but those were
more casual efforts.
Made a total of 861 contacts, which is a new personal
best for me, and the rig did just fine. never had any
real receiver overload problems, but I did have to
turn the IPO on briefly sunday afternoon. All in all
the receiver held up very well. The CW memory keyer
was also a plus, just wish it had more memories. The
DBP filter also helped some on CW. I have never been
that impressed with its performance on SSB, but then I
really haven't play around with the various cut off
frequency settings either. It probably could be an
asset.
So the rig passed the contest test. I also ran it
constantly friday night on WSJT in the Geminids meteor
shower, with no problems. I have had the fan mod
done, and had no problems with overheating. So, this
is an amazing radio for the size and price, and if you
want to do casual to somewhat serious contesting, feel
assured that it will work.
Now my question. has anyone used the FT100D with the
300 HZ filter? If so, is it worth the price of the
filter and installation in terms of performance
improvement? Or can you get about the same with the
DBP. I find that the band pass filter is very good
and peaking and narrowing the passband down to pick
out a single signal. At the same time I have always
been one to fill up the filter slots to get the best
possible performance, and would probably get a 300HZ
filter if it is worth the money and will make a big
difference. Find that the 500 HZ filter works well
with little blowby.
So far I love my FT100D!! Hope others feel the same.
