OK, here's the deal on an unmodified FT-1000D:
If you are in the same band on each VFO, then you can use the antenna
connected to the main antenna jack. This is the default configuration and
your configuration if you have a standard FT-1000 (ie: no BPF-1).
If you are in separate bands on each VFO, you must use the RX antenna
connected to the BPF-1 for the 2nd receiver. You do this by pushing the RX
Ant button on the front panel. This is as long as the internal switch is
set to E-BPF.
If you wish to operate split, then you just press the split button and you
will receive both VFOs through the main antenna. You will transmit on VFO-2
and receive on VFO-1 through the main antenna. If you wish to listen to
both VFOs, then press the Dual button.
You CANNOT operate split and use the antenna connected to the BPF-1 at the
same time. The main antenna will be used. If you want to use a separate
receive antenna for split operation, you must set the internal switch to
RANT.
You CANNOT transmit through the BPF-1.
If you have the internal switch set to R-ANT, then operating the radio with
the RX-ANT switch on the front panel active, you will then receive on the
MAIN VFO with a special receive antenna that is connected to the RCA jack on
the back panel of the radio.
If you wish to operate split with a separate RX-antenna, you must configure
the radio this way.
Doe this make sense? You can receive on both VFOs and transmit from either
VFO from the MAIN antenna. Just don't press the RX Ant switch.
