It might interest ALL on this list to know about similar problems
in COMMERCIAL LMRs (Land Mobile Radio)...like GE and Mother M..
The GE MSTR II, one of the most popular lines of mobile radios in
the 70-90s and still in use today by commercial and amateur circles,
has an annoying problem...if you start a car with the MII on, the
audio amp IC in the radio along with the voltage regulator do NOT
like to see the input voltage drop below 11V.....if it does, the
audio chip coupled with the 10V regulator chip will make a terrible
HOWL out of the spkr UNTIL you turn the radio OFF and back on...
GE knew about this problem and it persisted for many years...
I THINK they eventually fixed it in the last rev but I cannot recall
how.....(WHY they used a TO220 style voltage regulator instead of a
Zener with a pass xstr is beyond me...that would have fixed it before
it started!)...SO DONT think problems like mem loss is unique to
amateur gear (the memory loss btw also shows in others like my Kenwood
TM742 will go through once in a while..and reprogramming 100 memories
PER band is a pain...actually I have 200 memories now thanks to the
mod! and it happens at any time it wants to...last time was over a
year ago...I quit loading all the memories like I had been...and keep
ONLY the major freqs I use in them on 440 and 220....less than 2
dozen now...yes my 742 goes to the battery!)
