Sorry, off-topic, but I really had to respond to this question! :-)
OK, let's see. How about the Top Ten Reasons Why the Ten-Tec OMNI-VII Is a
Winner?
10) Unique front-end design with restricted-gain, high dynamic range 1st IF,
selectable narrow "distributed roofing" filters (Collins mechanical,
optionally down to 300 kHz) in 2nd IF, DSP selectivity in the 3rd IF.
Independently measured 3rd-order IMD dynamic range of 80 dB at 2 kHz signal
spacing. (Only the Ten-Tec Orion and Orion-II are meaningfully better.)
9) Ultra-low phase noise floor. Dynamic range measurements not limited by
phase noise as in many transceivers in the same price class (2,700ドル-3,000ドル).
8) Legendary Ten-Tec ultra-smooth, high-speed QSK operation on CW.
7) Built-in optional antenna tuner handles reactive loads up to 10:1 VSWR.
6) Ultra-clean front-panel user interface puts the controls you need at your
fingertips in an intuitive layout, with the controls you don't need very
often in the menu structure.
5) First directly-operable transceiver to also have a built-in Ethernet port
for direct conection to IP router or broadband modem without a PC; comes
with software making it possible to operate the transceiver from anywhere in
the world through a broadband Internet connection, or from across the room
on your home LAN.
4) Transceiver firmware instantly upgradeable from the Ten-Tec website.
3) Unparalleled Ten-Tec responsiveness to its user community; firmware bug
fixes have appeared online within days of being reported.
2) Everyone who got one of the first units shipped absolutely loves it.
(Check out the Yahoo! user group Ten-Tec-Omni-VII.) They can't make them
fast enough to keep up with orders.
And the Number 1 reason why the Ten-Tec OMNI-VII is a winner: Ten-Tec
finally INCLUDED 6 METER COVERAGE!
This just hits the high spots. I could go on. I plan on ordering mine a
little later this year.
As far as LOGic goes -- there are two opportunites here:
a) Traditional serial port interface. From what I've been able to piece
together, I think a new Jupiter-like interface protocol will probably have
to be created.
b) IP port interface to operate in conjunction with the radio's provided
remote software package. (To me, this is the REAL opportunity with this
radio!)
