Thanks for your quick reply. I understand the issues you describe, and it is
unfortunate, for those of us who
(a) really prefer Buckmaster over other callbook databases, and
(b) really like your development of "Callbook From Web"
I have purchased callbook CD-ROM's in the past. It's not the money. The
problem is that they arey are almost immediately out of date, even with
update subscriptions. Also, the trend is towards near-real-time data on the
web. Using LOGIC's "Callbook From Web", the access time (versus CD) is
nearly identical, and the web-based data (esp. updates of QSL managers,
operator biographies, web links, email, etc.) is much more fresh than what
is found on the CD's. In the case of Buckmaster (and, in fairness, QRZ.COM
too), the advertising is often a plus. (For my part, I'd be willing to pay a
modest subscription fee and NOT receive the CD-ROM media, but have linked
web access through LOGIC.)
I understand and appreciate Buckmaster protecting peoples' email addresses,
but I wish there was a way to have it both ways. As it stands now with many
LOGIC users, Buckmaster is losing the advertising hits to QRZ.COM or other
database sites. Seems to me this is an unintended and undesireable
consequence. I'm not sure if other logging programs are similarly effected,
but if so, the effect on Buckmaster's advertising hits could be even
greater.
Thanks and 73
Dan
