Hi Phil,
Well, it is really easy to get AK in the DXCC section of the List of
Valid Values. I have done it several times, hi. It happens when you do a
search in the List for DXCC by putting DXCC in the wrong slot on the
search window. If you have AK in the DXCC list you probably also have it
in the Prefix List. You can delete it from both places -- do the delete
in the Prefix List first and then go to the List of Valid Values. When
the screen comes up do a Find and when that screen comes up it will have
ARRL Sect as the Field Name. Highlight that and replace it with DXCC.
That will bring up the DXCC List and you can search for AK. If you find
it just delete it and hit enter and close the window. When you are done
do an awards update and you will be in good shape again.
Every time we get a new version of Logic I go to the prefix list and the
list of valid values and delete all of the deleted countries that do not
apply to me. They clutter things up rather badly and most have not been
on for many years, and probably never will be on again. If a person runs
the report entitled All band and mode awards they will show up with
nothing in any of the band or mode slots so I can see no reason to leave
them in. The ones that have to be deleted will vary per individual
operator so it is something each person must do.
I do wish that Dennis would change the prefix table so it would
correspond with the Entities List published by ARRL. Not that theirs is
gospel but that is where all good little DXers have to send their
countries for credit. We all know that we make mistakes and so does ARRL
when it comes to country credits. So, after sending in a bunch of cards
and getting the credit sheets back from ARRL we all have to compare
their count with what we have in Logic. It would be a whole lot easier
to do if the prefixes used by Logic were the same as those used by ARRL.
But --- this is not the case. You have a couple of choice -- change the
prefixes in Logic and the List of Valid Values, hunt through each list
until you find which prefix in Logic corresponds to the prefix used by
ARRL, or take ARRL's word for the correct country count. Personally, I
like to check them out completely so I know I am correct in my count. It
is also a pain when you go to run a filter on a particular country and
have to stop and think about what prefix Logic uses versus what prefix
ARRL uses.
Ok, off the soapbox now. Just one of the little peeves that could so
easily be corrected. Good luck with the AK thing.
