[Kenwood] recommendation regarding Kenwood TS 2000

Folks, a friend of mine has a Kenwood TS 2000 that he wants to sell. I know he has only used it on QRP of 5 watts because he is a CW person that works the FOX operation. I do not know the serial number or exact age. It sits most of the time covered with a cloth.
Was there a certain serial number where mods or improvements were installed in new TS 2000s?
Is there a series of serial numbers that should be avoided? What has been your experience with the TS 2000?
My friend, a neighbor) has terminal malignancy and wants to sell the TS 2000 promptly. I don't need another radio but maybe I can relieve this concern that he has.
Do you have any recommendations about price without knowing the age or serial number? I know that it has been used very little because his interest has not been in talking on the radio. He is a tinkerer and spends his time working on small tube type gear.
