[Kenwood] TS-950S Transmit Mode at Power On

My TS-950S (with the digital add on pieces) has developed a problem that has me stumped. I haven+IBk-t found any answers on the internet or through the NIDXA and SDDXC reflectors (but thanks to everyone who pointed me here).
When I push the Power button, the radio comes up in receive mode (as normal) but then switches to transmit mode within about one second. I have everything disconnected but the antenna and the power. The VOX is not on nor is the Rec/Send button depressed. This just started up last night after many years of flawless service.
Any help very much appreciated.
