I guess I have another take on this situation.
I run "Hollow State", vacuum tube equipment almost exclusively.
I purchased a few loaded tube caddies a number of years back. It began
with an auction on "that" place.
Much to my surprise, the seller was about 35 to 40 miles down the road
from me. He and his wife were clearing out tubes galore from his
father's former business. We talked, and I asked for tubes more
specific to radio instead of TV.
Both were VERY happy to oblige. Hence the multiple purchases of caddies.
No regrets. And I can certainly repair them!
I'm slowly getting out of Kenwoods. Too many Service Bulletins on EACH
model, and the same things you point out. The ONLY place for compact
solid state in my life? Mobile! So far I've been able to obtain what I
need on the used market. The LAST new 2 mtr rig was procured in 1988 or
1989.
Besides, my main interests lie in AM.
