The Inrad #100 is nearly identical to the Kenwood plug in AM filter YK-88A1. I bought one during Inrad's annual New Year's eve sale and did a number of "ear" tests comparing the two side by side. I couldn't tell the difference between the two. The advantage of the Inrad #100 is that you can still easily get it. The KW filter was at times, nearly impossible to get.
Whether you need it or not is up to you. It really helped back in the days of crowded AM shortwave bands, but nowadays, the broadcasters are so sparse and most of the content is not worth listening to.
If you do MW AM DX'ing it is still helpful, but then who wants to listen to Coast to Coast every 10 kHz (lol).

Subject: [Kenwood] TS-940S AM Filter Question
I'd appreciate some advice and/or opinions on an issue with my TS-940S.
I'm considering installing an Inrad #100 (6Khz 8-pole crystal filter) or
an Inrad #475 (4KHz 8-pole crystal filter) AM filter.
Is there an advantage to installing one over the other?
Is there any point to installing one at all?
Colorado is not a hot-bed of AM activity and I do not have a great
antenna (It's OK ...not great).
Maybe it's a waste of 115ドル.00?
Advice/opinions appreciated.
