[Kenwood] Kenwood TS-940-SAT

I have enjoyed the Kenwood TS-940 since I purchased it new, now 20 years ago approximately. 
I am wondering if any other owners have ever noticed the extreme sensitivity of the mic gain control, atleast when used in conjunction with the Kenwood MC-60 Microphone. I have the control set on one 1 (0 -10) and I seem to "overdrive" the ALC circuit if I tweak this up just a hair. It's very sensitive.
I have never done much experimentation with the compression circuitry, although maybe I should take some time and do so. Everyone likes the audio very much on this radio as long as I am adjusted properly. 
I heard recently that Kenwood East no longer supports the TS-940 and I am glad I had it in a while ago for complete alignment, battery replacement and check-out.
