Anecdotal: Guy I know was big 160M, CW contester, honor roll DXer. Loved
his -830 and said nothing was as good at least on 160M. When he heard an
-850 he said it was equal and had the modern stuff (no tubes, computer
control, some slope tuning type stuff). He got one and loved his -850 which
I inherited and now have 2. Many contesters have a pair of -850s. At least
those that did not want to spend a bunch of money on the radios for a two
radio set-up. Supposedly since the FT-1000 days, some of the large $$$ are
real good and DSP can be amazing.

Subject: [Kenwood] Receivers: TS830 vs TS850
I have recently stumbled upon a couple of messages and radio reviews that
suggest that the Kenwood TS830S has a better overall receiver than the
TS850. Now I thought that the 850 has one of the best receivers ever. Is
this true, does the 830 really have an even better receiver?
