So, I don't get 500 e-mails from people asking me what's wrong with it. I
will tell it all over again.
I developed a problem with the radio. The recieve would cut out and if I
transmitted the SWR at the Radio would peg out to infinity.
A person, whom I will not mention, because I don't want to get sued, told me
to try spraying and tweaking the pot on the TCXO board. There's an voltage
adjustment, it's a variable cap there, I did. I guess I had the wrong tool,
because it didn't help. rig sat for year and a half, finally, my buddy,
who's a tinkerer, tried replacing that variable cap. and the radio played
for 1 day and is now doing what it was doing before I ever messed with it.
I understand that the board that the TCXO unit is on, has been
discontinued... But the TCXO unit itself is available.
Do I want to sell it? No, I'd like to get the goddamned thing to work, so, I
can use the radio. But, I don't want to be stuck with a Radio, that you
cannot get parts for.
My current situation is, I'm 35 years old and unemployed. I'm a political
Blogger and upstart writer. I'd like to do it for a living.
Do I have the money to go get another radio, like a Icom Pro 3? No. I do
not. I've already had a few people say, "if you want to get rid of it, let
me know..."
What they really are saying is, If you wanna sell it for 100 bucks for
parts, let me know, please, vultures, don't make me laugh... ok? I'm not an
idiot.
The Radio's Serial number is 61000044, Don't know what that has to do with
price of tea in china, but there it is...
I've got a friend, Matt, KD8GUI, who's offering to get the part I need and
put in it and align the rig for me, and yes, he does have the needed
equipment.
Once it's fixed, will I sell it? I might. I'm not giving the radio away, so,
the flapping radio vultures need not e-mail me, looking to scam me out of a
radio, thank you. I'd consider a trade on a new rig and a power supply to
run it. (as I only have a 14 amp pyramid power supply, that looks like it's
been through a war...) Pro 3 would be nice, but, I'd have to get all new
mics and other stuff that I need... the 570DG would be nice, but I'd have to
get a filter and the optional TCXO unit for it. royal PITA, The pro makes
more sense, because there's no optional stuff. (except maybe a desk mic...)
Anyways, there's the answers...
If anyone wants to do a serious trade and not try and pull a scam, let me
know....
