Hello Jim, info I tried from the http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TM-D700/
helped me alot with this very same issue.
First make sure the APRS UNPROTOCOL 3-E menu item is set to APK101 as listed
in the Specialized Communications Instuction Manual page 22. AP in the front
of any listing here should allow for all packets, but am seeing some debate
about this, so start with teh default setting first. Please note that the
walkie talkie TH-D7 has a different default for aprs unprotocol of APK002.
Both units here are the G2.0 version level (only had em for one week, so in
a learning curve hi hi).
After this setting is done and the problem hasnt cleared up, write down or
save with a program all the settings/data from the radio and do a master
reset. It took that to clear mine up. Instruction Manual page 41 (radio
1-9-7 and rotate through the reset options)
Of course we are assuming that the TNC is on and in the APRS mode during
your receive testing .... hi

Subject: [Kenwood] TM-D700 "Problem"
TM-D700 selectively deaf on APRS. A friend has a D700 mobile that does not
hear the stations that mine does with his car sitting right next to mine.
He hears me and I hear him. He does not hear anybody else. His APRS
distance limit was set to off like mine but I changed it to 2500 miles and
it made no difference. As we went home, I sent him a message and at about
10 miles, I received his ack message so he received it. He only has one
other station and mine in his "list" as having been heard. In our area, I
receive several position reports or messages every minute and even as I sat
next to him, he did not get them.
Is there a setting that limits the number of calls in the "list" to
something other than 40 or causes the "list" to fill up and not to shift the
old ones off of the end?
I will have to do more testing but he says he has already swapped out the
antenna and is about to send the radio back to get it checked out. I only
had time to look at it for a few minutes.
I will swap his antenna (again) with mine this time. His antenna on my
radio too.
I will put an power/SWR meter on the his radio/antenna.
I will compare all the APRS settings with mine.
Anybody have any ideas? What else is there?
Thanks es 73, de Jim KG0KP
