Yes, it *can* be, mostly if you've got a high end monitor. I've seen HD 
on a wide spectrum of sets from some of the best pro monitors to the 
Wal-Mart specials and some of the cheaper HD sets are not worth the money.
The real problem is that most TV stations don't just run their HD 
channel for the highest quality, which is full bandwidth and maximum 
data throughput. Most of them run 3 or 4 channels...HD (the letter-box 
format), standard definition or SD (a normal 4 by 3 screen format) plus 
more which can be anything from a full-time weather channel to business 
news. These extra channels reduce the quality of the HD channel, 
sometimes significantly, but that's okay since most viewers can't tell 
the difference and the added channels are additional sources of revenue. 
It's all a pretty straightforward business decision.
