I had the noisy fan problem in my TS940SAT with both fans. It is not
too hard to lube them, and if you use the right oil, there is no risk
of causing a burnout. Try Labelle 101 oil. It is available from on
line hobby stores and other places. You might find it in a local
hobby shop that carries trains or other things with small motors. It
has a long, thin applicator that lets you reach the fan shaft without
complete disassembly of the radio. It is good stuff.
To lube the fans, just get a drop of oil on the shaft where it enters
the motor. You do not have to completely remove the blades to do
this, but you will have to loosen the blade assembly to uncover the
shaft. When you put the blade assembly back on, don't mount it flush
against the motor or you will experience a new kind of noise. Leave
enough room so that no part of the blades will hit anything as they
rotate. Pay attention to the small copper contact that rides against
the shaft.
