[Kenwood] TS930.

I recently obtained a second TS930. After fixing various PLL problems, I
tried to set up the PA & Driver biasses. Driver bias was very unstable
& refused to be set up according to the manual.
Eventually I found (Tnx Mods DK!!) an article by Pedro, ON7WP, about
replacing the MRF485 Drivers (yes, mine were LOW Beta), with FETs.
Pedro recommended type STP4NA80, but I could only obtain BUZ80A.
Mod is pretty simple, 3 or 4 components to remove & 3 or 4 new ones.
After the mod, the Bias set up went ok & the rig tested ok - except
output was only around 30 - 40W on 10 & 12m. The BUZ80s I got were each
made in different countries, so quality could be an issue, I guess. All
other bands are 100w. The rig performs very well now - these FETs are
MUCH cheaper then MRF485s.
For anybody with a TS930, this mod is well worth downloading & filing
for future reference!! If only there was/is something similar & suitable
for the MRF422 finals!!
