[Kenwood] Question abt TS-700A

I know I'm going back a few years on this one but trying to help out a ham
who has been out of the hobby a LONG time.
He has the above radio and said that his manual states that the radio can be
used on a 2m rept with the tone board, the part number is X48-1140-20.
Now the trick question, how easy is that part to find, and/or is it still
available?
Is the part something you just plug into the radio and you have tone
capability or does it involve more than that?
Any info or advice would be helpful.
I was looking on the web and looks like this radio is from the late 70's, so
I do realize that I'm probably going back in time a bit.
