It's certainly a stereo socket on the TS-820, but a key with a mono plug
seems to work ok. Anyone know why the extra contact?
David....
I'm assuming the reason it's a stereo plug is so that one can plug in an
external electronic iambic keyer, and a set of paddles.
Having had both the 820S & 830S radios in the past, I used ( and still do
use with my 950SDX ) an MFJ Electronic Keyer
with Bencher paddles. The plug required was/is a stereo 1/4 inch phone plug.
BTW...before anyone asks...I know the 950SDX has a built in keyer, but since
I have the MFJ keyer from days gone by, I use it
so it doesn't feel neglected and waste away :-)
