 Thanks for the info. It looks like a job for the Kenwood Service Centre.
I've had the covers off my 950SDX and I don't think I want to try to remove
the tuner! Thanks again..

Just in case you didn't get any reply so far...
I experienced the very same problem a while ago...
Solution was simple and long-lasting...
Get the tuner out of the rig...
Put a MICRON fine machine oil drop at all the bushings you see: plastic
ones on the gear train and brass ones on the motors' shafts...
The drops in the motors' bushings/shafts were the ones that made the
magic!
Use very fine sewing machine oil, and use it SPARINGLY! Especially on
plastics.
