Three sources of traditional alternator whine (is this the motor noise =
to which you refer?)
(1) Poor or inappropriate ground connection. Best ground is at the =
battery terminals. Other grounds can cause a "ground loop" where =
induced voltage due to current between the alternator and battery end up =
modulating the radio.
(2) Reliance on the antenna ground to power the radio (see #1)
(3) Need to install a choke and capacitor in the power lead.
Perhaps there are other issues in newer cars where computers and plastic =
structures are possible contributors. I saw a motor carrier filled with =
new automobiles the other day. All the hoods were fractured with =
numerous long cracks. It looked like whatever composite material was =
used to make the hoods had become unstable. Reminded me of potmetal =
failures in old 1920's-'30s radios.

Just installed a new TS-480HX in the car. Now I have a lot of motor =
noise. Does anyone have suggestions. The TS-480HX is a replacement for a =
FT-100D. The 100D had just a little noise on it but not like the 480.=20
