You asked about the 850 vs the 870 for CW. There is a discussion about that
topic on the EHam website. Search on ts-850 vs ts-870 and you should see
the topic which dealt initially with the 850 with and without the DSP-100.

I have been wondering if Kenwood will be coming out with a replacement for
the TS-870 soon. Some amateur radio vendors don't list the radio on their
websites, although I believe it is available through special order. In
addition, I don't believe that Kenwood is still producing the VS-2 voice
synthesizer any more, yet it is an option for the 870.
I have an 850, and I have been shopping for a new radio. I have been
looking at the ICOM 756ProII, but I would really like to stay with Kenwood.
The 870 still looks very tempting to me. I guess what I want is a TS-850
with IF DSP.
