Stanley,
Check the receive side of the antenna T/R relay. I have worked on several '830s
where the T/R relay contacts on the receive side developed a very high DC
resistance, in excess of a megohm, as measured with an ohm meter. A very
effective attenuator, indeed! A quick cleaning with some DeoxIT on a strip of
card stock run through the contacts cures the problem.
