[Kenwood] TS-870 Sticky VFO

Just after the CQ WW DX CW, noticed:
On the 10 KHz/Rev setting of VFO knob, the 10's of Hertz
display and frequency are sticking (not changing) for up
to 1/4 Rev of VFO knob. A little jerk un-sticks it. This occurs
at random internals on all bands, and for the full frequency span
of all bands.
Turning the Step Adjust On/Off or changing the Step Setting
to 1/5/10 KHz makes no difference.
If I use the 5 KHz/Rev setting for VFO knob, it works fine.
I have done a partial and full reset of the microprocessor - no
help. The rig did get get the least bit warm during the contest
as I kept a clip-on desk fan running and aimed at back of rig.
Anybody know if the VFO knob uses a daisey wheel encoder ??
Anybody got any suggestions ??
