After aligning my R599A receiver I got the following results:
S-1 (I can not get below 0.5uV)
S-2 0.5uV
S-3 0.7uV
S-4 1.0uV
S-5 1.5uV
S-6 3.25uV
S-7 10uV
S-8 20uV
S-9 50uV
S-meter calibrated for S-9 @ 50uV by adjusting VR1 on RF board. VR1 set CW
90% of rotation or 4 0'clock position.
With 0.5uV I get 25dB S/N. Using an Audio VTVM calibrated to -10 dB of base
line noise from the speaker output terminal terminated with a 600ohm resistor.
Then adding 0.5uV of signal the meter increased by 25dB to +15dB.
Is all this typical?
Generator used: Tektronics 191 Constant Amplitude Signal Generator.
Generator cannot go lower than 0.5mV so used 3 10X Attenuators (GenRad
874G20) to obtain 0.5uV.
